Meet The Orthodontists

Tell us a little bit about your career history:
Originally from Northern Ireland, Dr. Boyd qualified as a dentist from the University of Glasgow in 2002. After qualifying, he gained valuable experience in both general practice and hospital placements in Newcastle Upon Tyne and New Zealand. In 2007, Dr. Boyd commenced specialist orthodontic training at Leeds Dental Institute and York District Hospital. He earned his Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and completed a Master of Dental Science degree from the University of Leeds in 2010. Since then, Dr. Boyd has been practicing as a specialist orthodontist in Yorkshire, with a keen interest in adult orthodontics, particularly clear and lingual braces. He regularly attends specialist training meetings to stay current in his field and is a registered Invisalign® Provider.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?
In surgery, working alongside a fantastic team of nurses and therapists.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing the smile on a patient’s face at the end of their treatment.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m kept busy by our two kids and enjoy getting out cycling whenever I can.

What makes you smile?
Exploring the outdoors with my family.

Louise joined the orthodontic team at Queensway Orthodontics in April 2012. She graduated from Newcastle Dental School in 2004 with honours and was awarded the British Dental Association prize for her academic achievements. She completed her vocational training in Teesside before becoming a Senior House Officer (SHO) on the Oral and Maxillofacial unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital. In 2006, she was awarded a Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Louise then worked as an SHO in Newcastle Dental Hospital where she was able to gain further experience in the sedation, restorative, paediatric and orthodontic departments before moving to a general practice and the Community Dental Service. She then embarked on specialist training in orthodontics at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. As part of her training she completed a Masters in Orthodontics at Newcastle University, graduating with distinction.

Louise is also a certified provider of Invisalign® and a member of the British Orthodontic Society and European Master of Aligners.

What do you enjoy most about working for Queensway Orthodontics

Working with such a great team, everyone is enthusiastic and strives to do the best for patients.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?

I can be found in the clinic planning orthodontic treatments for patients and providing supervision for the orthodontic therapy and orthodontic nursing teams.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The smiles at the end of treatment.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

Spending time with my husband Will and our children Daisy and Huw.

What makes you smile?

A cup of tea with a dunkable biscuit.

Jonathan studied dentistry at Newcastle Dental Hospital and graduated in 1998. He gained further experience in a variety of dental specialties post-graduation, prior to embarking on the 3-year specialist training in orthodontics in the North East of England, gaining a Master’s Degree, which he passed with Merit. This training allowed Jonathan to sit the specialty examination at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and he qualified in 2004 as a registered Specialist Orthodontist with the General Dental Council. Jonathan has also undertaken a further two years of training in the management of complex multidisciplinary orthodontic patients, passing his fellowship examination in orthodontics in 2007

Jonathan is a NHS Consultant Orthodontist at Newcastle Dental Hospital where he treats multidisciplinary orthodontic patients with facial deformities and complex needs. He has an interest in new technologies in orthodontics and is a certified Invisalign® practitioner.

Jonathan is also actively involved in teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates at Newcastle Dental hospital as a consultant level. He is also an active member, examiner and advisor to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?

Upstairs in the main surgery chatting with patients, and tinkering with teeth to help achieve straight smile aspirations.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Being part of an amazing team, getting to know patients and their smiles at the end of treatment.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

Getting out in the fresh air with my family!

What makes you smile?

A Northumbrian beach, a sausage sandwich and great company!

Guy is a specialist orthodontist and partner at Queensway Orthodontics. He is absolutely passionate about delivering the best possible care to all his patients and he uses his experience, our amazing team and the latest technologies to make that happen every single day.

Guy initially qualified as a dentist from Newcastle University in 2000, before completing advanced training at Guy’s and Kingston Hospitals, London to become a registered specialist in orthodontics in 2007.

To be honest, his experience speaks for itself – Guy is a member of the Invisalign® advisory board and leads the team at Queensway Orthodontics as the leading Specialist Invisalign Provider in the North of England. He has also been a Director of the British Orthodontic Society, which a highly respected professional organisation representing orthodontics in the UK. In addition, he has a visiting specialist to the Orthodontic Department at Newcastle University, teaching and training other orthodontists and dentists by sharing his expertise with colleagues.

Kathryn graduated from Newcastle Dental School with honours in 2009 and was awarded the British Society of Restorative Dentistry (BSRD) prize for her clinical work, and the British Society for Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) prize due to her interest in clinical research regarding the oral health of children and adolescents. She then completed General Professional Training in 2011 before going on to work in general dental practice and teach undergraduate dental students on the Newcastle Dental Emergency Clinic.

Kathryn then spent a year in Australia working as a dental officer and clinical supervisor for undergraduate dental students at Queensland University. Upon her return to the UK, she gained further experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery and orthodontics working at Altnagelvin Hospital Northern Ireland, before moving to the Community Dental Service in Northumberland. Kathryn then completed three years of specialist orthodontic training at Newcastle Dental Hospital. She completed a Masters in Orthodontics at Newcastle University, graduating with distinction, and gained Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2019.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Happy confident smiles at the end of treatment.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

Spending time with my husband and little girl which usually involves walks in the countryside, strolls on the beach and dancing to music around our kitchen!

What makes you smile?

Family time, sunshine and good coffee.

George studied Dentistry at the University of Manchester and qualified in 2015. After qualifying George completed a two-year dental foundation training programme, working in an NHS Dental Practice and Newcastle Dental Hospital, gaining experience in paediatric dentistry, restorative dentistry, and oral surgery. In this time, George completed the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) examinations and was awarded the TC White Medal for gaining the highest marks nationally. 

George then completed further training in oral and maxillofacial surgery and paediatric dentistry, before embarking on a three year orthodontic speciality training programme at James Cook University Hospital in 2019. George successfully completed a Masters in Orthodontics and passed the Speciality Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2022.

George has also undertaken a further two years of Consultant Orthodontic training at Newcastle Dental Hospital and Cumberland Infirmary in the management of complex multidisciplinary orthodontic patients. He successfully passed his fellowship examination in Orthodontics in 2024, and is due to start as an NHS Consultant Orthodontist in the North East.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice? You'll usually find me in my surgery, planning patients' treatments and supervising our fantastic team.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing the improvement in a patient's confidence throughout their treatment and creating lifelong beautiful smiles!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I enjoy traveling, dining out, and spending quality time with my family.

What makes you smile? A nice cup of Earl Grey tea and getting the chance to enjoy Florida's sunshine always make me smile!

Heidi graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 2008 and during this time she also completed an intercalated BSc in Anatomy. Heidi gained further experience in different areas of dentistry including oral surgery, paediatrics and restorative dentistry post-graduation and during this time attained Membership in the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. In 2012, she embarked on specialist training at the University of Sheffield/Royal Derby Hospital and was awarded a Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Merit) and obtained Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Richard studied dentistry at Newcastle University and was awarded the James Coltman Prize for Operative Dentistry when he graduated in 2010.He gained valuable experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Special Care Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry and attained Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 2012. Richard discovered his passion for orthodontics in 2014 when he started straightening smiles using Invisalign, and in 2019 he returned to Newcastle University to embark upon a 3-year MSc training programme in orthodontics. He subsequently sat the specialty Membership in Orthodontics examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded the prestigious William Houston Gold Medal for the most meritorious performance in these examinations.

In my surgery planning cases or supervising our brilliant team of therapists and nurses.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Hearing patients say how much they love their new smile!

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

I like to spend time with my young family as well as keeping fit and playing the drums in a band.

Freshly baked flapjacks and strong coffee!

Colin graduated with honours from Newcastle University in 1999. He attained his MFDS qualification at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2002.

During his training pathway Colin has gained wide experience with positions as a Senior House Officer at Newcastle Dental Hospital, followed by a post in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Newcastle General Hospital.

Colin completed his specialist orthodontic training as a Registrar at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, attaining his Membership of the Faculty of Orthodontists at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2007. During his specialist training Colin researched a novel method to reduce the risks of demineralisation during orthodontic treatment as an MSc project, which was passed with distinction.

Colin is an Invisalign® provider and he works in partnership with some the region’s leading Restorative Specialists and implant experts in treating complex multidisciplinary cases.

Colin is on the Orthodontic Specialist List and is a member of the British Orthodontic Society.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?

In surgery, planning patients’ treatment and supervising our fantastic team of dental therapists and dental nurses.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing patients smile when they have their braces removed at the end of treatment.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

My wife Lisa and I have 2 daughters and we spend a lot of time in the Lake District, enjoying the outdoors and fresh air.

What makes you smile?

Skiing with my girls in Whistler, Canada – our favourite place in the world!

Tell us a little bit about your career history:
Camilla graduated from the University of Bristol in 2014 and completed her Foundation Training in London a year later, before going on to work as a Dental Core Trainee (DCT) to gain experience in the different dental specialities. She worked in the paediatric dental unit at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, followed by a year at Bristol Royal Infirmary in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department and a year in a mixed clinical and research post in paediatric dentistry and orthodontics at Bristol Dental Hospital.

In 2018, Camilla then embarked on three years of specialist orthodontic training at Cardiff Dental Hospital. As part of her training, she completed a Masters in Orthodontics at Cardiff University, graduating with distinction, and gained Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2021.

In my surgery, chatting to patients and planning their treatment.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Giving people smiles to be proud of and boosting their confidence.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?
Spending time with my family, running, staying fit & healthy, exploring the UK’s most beautiful places!

Tell us a little bit about your career history:
Hamza qualified as a dentist in 2009 and has since gained extensive experience working in hospitals and private practices across Asia, Africa, and the UK. He further specialised in Orthodontics at the prestigious King’s College London, where he earned his Master's in Orthodontics and gained valuable experience at both King’s College Hospital and Guy’s Hospital. Hamza is also a proud member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, where he obtained his MOrth degree.

Trained under some of the leading experts in orthodontics, Hamza also holds a Master's degree in Dental Public Health from King’s College London. As a strong advocate of lifelong learning, he regularly attends conferences and courses worldwide to stay updated on the latest technological advancements in orthodontics, ensuring the best outcomes for his patients. Hamza is skilled in all forms of conventional orthodontics, including complex cases that require surgical and restorative procedures, as well as the latest techniques like aligners and invisible braces.

Career History:
Ninu began her career in dentistry in 2009 after graduating from Rajiv Gandhi University of Dental Sciences. In 2011, Ninu completed a Master’s in Dental Public Health at the University of Sheffield, where she developed a passion for research. This interest led Ninu to win an international award for distinguished research in behavioural sciences applied in dentistry (Giddon Award – IADR 2015). Ninu then pursued a PhD in clinical dentistry at Sheffield, completing her doctorate in 2018 with a thesis focused on the patients' experience of undergoing orthognathic surgery.

After moving to Newcastle with her husband, Ninu worked as a General Dental Practitioner (GDP) for two years before being offered an academic position at Newcastle University. During this time, she also trained as an orthodontist and became a specialist in 2022. Now, she splits her time between practicing orthodontics and conducting research and mentoring young orthodontists at Newcastle University.

Where will you usually find me in the practice?
In surgery planning cases and catching up on paperwork.

The most rewarding part of my job:
Creating beautiful smiles at the end of treatment and seeing the confidence it brings to young people.

What I enjoy outside of work:
I’m exploring the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in orthodontic research. When I’m not doing that, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, going for walks, and playing badminton.

What makes me smile?
My daughter, and seeing a patient's excitement when their braces come off and they see their new smile for the first time!

Dr. Anna Scott is an esteemed Specialist Orthodontist at Queensway Orthodontics. She completed her undergraduate studies at Newcastle University in 2000, followed by a vocational training year in Middlesbrough. Anna has gained extensive experience in orthodontics, initially working at Cleveland Orthodontics and later advancing her qualifications in Melbourne, Australia, where she earned a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics in 2016.

Anna achieved her Membership in Orthodontics from the prestigious Edinburgh college and is a certified Invisalign provider. She has served as an honorary lecturer in the Children's Department at Newcastle University, focusing on specialist care dentistry and community care. Prior to joining Queensway Orthodontics in 2021, Anna refined her expertise in several specialist orthodontic practices in Melbourne.

With a dedication to excellence and a compassionate approach, Anna continues to contribute profoundly to the field of orthodontics, both in clinical practice and as an educator.
