Help your child get a head start with Invisalign First

The Early Bird… Catches the Confident Smile

Sometimes, when you know a job needs doing, you just want to get it done, don’t you? Many people don’t consider orthodontic treatment until their teens or adulthood, but did you know that Invisalign can be an option from as young as six years old?

What is Invisalign for Kids?

Just like Invisalign for teens and adults, Invisalign First is an alternative to traditional metal braces, but is designed specifically for children aged 6-10. The aligners have no tracks and brackets; instead you wear a clear, plastic retainer that is virtually invisible and can be removed to brush your teeth, so it doesn’t interfere with your child’s sports and hobbies or what they eat.

How does Invisalign First work?

During a first, free consultation, the orthodontist will carry out a 3D scan of your child’s teeth. From that, a clear plastic aligner is made, which they then wear for at least 22 hours a day, usually. As their teeth and mouth develop, they swap the current aligners for a series of new ones, which gently alter the position of teeth and sometimes the shape of the palate.

Will they still need braces later?

Invisalign First is known as a ‘Phase One’ treatment, so it may be the only treatment they need or it may just get them ahead of the game so they need less treatment than they would have done further down the line. Either way, it’s a sound investment in their confidence.

Is Invisalign First suitable for my child?

You should talk to your orthodontist to find out if your child would benefit from early treatment. It may be that it’s best to wait until they’re a little older, but in some cases, such as with overcrowding, crossbites or where teeth are protruding and causing wear and damage, early intervention can be of enormous benefit. You can do a quick quiz to find out if your child might be a good candidate on our website.

Can children with baby teeth still have Invisalign?

Yes, in many cases, this is absolutely fine. Your orthodontist will be able to tell you more about your child’s particular case.

How much time will my child need off school for orthodontics appointments?

Probably much less than you think. After the initial consultation and appointment, you can send in dental monitoring scans using your mobile. It’s super simple, even for kids, and means your orthodontist can follow your progress without having to see your child in person.

Is Invisalign First free on the NHS?

Not usually. However, at Queensway we think every child should have the option of the treatment they want so we offer several really affordable payment plans for parents.

What are the pros and cons of braces versus Invisalign for younger children?

Many younger children find traditional metal braces quite tricky. They can make brushing harder at a time when they’re just learning to brush well themselves. The metal brackets and wires can be a bit uncomfortable. And, of course, looking ‘different’ can be a big deal at school at this age, whereas once they’re a bit older braces are more commonplace.

In contrast, Invisalign for younger children means that:

●     They can be removed for brushing and are easier to take care of

●     They can be removed for music or sport if you wish

●     They’re more comfortable

●     They are virtually invisible so can go unnoticed. (But if it turns out you just wanna show them off, they can also be customised with colourful stickers!)

●     Fewer visits to the orthodontist are needed as they can be monitored remotely

●     You can reduce the time needed for treatment as problems can be intercepted earlier
